In approximately eight hours, a new school year will begin in my county. I am both terrified and irate because the school board will make no efforts to protect children in the county school system from COVID-19. No mask requirements, no temperature checks, no anything. These children, particularly the ones too young to be vaccinated, are being led like sacrificial lambs to slaughter while the adults, who are entrusted with their care, are giving God the middle finger by refusing to accept the miracle means to end the pandemic they have fervently prayed for. So much for having faith.

The fact is COVID never left this area, and it's ramping up again thanks to our embarrassingly poor vaccination rate (~ 29% fully vaccinated at last check). The Delta variant makes it spread faster, and it is putting children in hospitals at higher rates than previous strains. Vaccines, masks, and social distancing are the only ways out. Stop it right now with the, "God will protect us" nonsense. God helps those who help themselves, and you could help him be less busy by doing your part.

Another thing I do not understand is why schools are pushing so hard for S.T.E.M. (science, technology, engineering, and math) subjects when their attitudes and subsequent policies reject basic science. If you are ditching science, you might as well throw out technology and engineering, too, since these three things are intricately connected. Invest the STEM money back into the arts if you cannot accept simple scientific facts.

How can something as simple as a temperature check be too much effort if you "love these kids like they're my own"? Since you seem so fond of guns and anyone can have one now, how much trouble can it be to point a thermometer gun at a child's head and pull the trigger? Seems easy enough to me.
